Where do you go from here?

When you look up and don’t realize where you are, take a deep breath and remember how far you have come.

I can’t remember a day in the past two months I’m which I didn’t read political commentary for at least an hour. That’s more than an entire work week worth of uninformed talk and the occasional policy discussion.

Today, I decided that it really isn’t helping me at all. Why buy into the hype machine? It’s infuriating what some people say on the internet (I’m looking at you Twitter). I can understand why political discussions get heated.

Let’s all take a moment to remember what it feels like when someone compliments you or gives you kudos for a job well done. When you look at something you’ve created with a sense of overwhelming accomplishment. When you are proud to proclaim your beliefs, not because they’re better than someone else’s, but because they are true and good.

Why not seek that feeling rather than the alternative? Focus on something that moves the ball forward. Be it for a personal dream or project, at your full time job or in the social sphere with relationships and philanthropy. Chase the feeling.

A few things that I have found to help evoke this joy temporarily and help motivate to action are:

  • Meditation
  • Talking to a good friend
  • Being in nature
  • Listening to your favorite music
  • Excercise
  • Studying history

Whatever you do, please be positive. Consistently practicing optimism is one of the most important skills out there. You can reach your goals. You will.
